Billed for the world welterweight (150lbs) title, Lewis (148½) was soon on the attack and in the fourth round put his fellow-American opponent down three times. The fifth session saw Lewis continuing to take the fight to Stanton and after getting up from a further knockdown the latter was dropped again and counted out.
