1908-05-14 (133lbs) Joe Gans w rsc 11 (20) Rudy Unholz, The Coliseum, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Jack Welch. Contested for the world title at 133lbs, Unholz (132½) was an awkward opponent but before too long he was being made to look foolish by Gans (133). Stumbling around in the third, Unholz (132¾) was dropped by a left hook and in the seventh a crashing left uppercut from Gans (133) dumped him again. One of his seconds even tried to retire him in that session and he was promptly struck. From then on Unholz was peppered badly, with blows coming in from all angles, and in the tenth he was smashed down again, receiving such a beating that he was lucky to make it back to his stool. At the start of the 11th he was blasted to the floor yet again when hit by uppercuts from both hands and was then rescued by the referee when in the act of rising.
