1908-06-23 (145lbs) Harry Lewis w pts 12 Larry Temple, Armory AA, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Articled at 145lbs for the world welterweight title, further scrutiny of the Boston Post uncovered that while Lewis came in over the weight, Temple (145), who had worked hard to get into shape, was inside and could have taken the former’s claim by forfeit had he wished. Putting up an aggressive fight, Temple was heavily countered to head and body from both hands as Lewis took a grip on the contest and it wasn’t until the last three rounds that he got on the attack. On 7 September after Lewis outpointed Unk Russell over 12 rounds at the same venue the paper reported that he had successfully held on to his title claim. That statement was made in the light of Russell being inside 145lbs regardless of Lewis’ weight.
