19 October (114lbs) Digger Stanley w pts 20 Sam Keller, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Made at 114lbs, it was noticeable from the start that the power lay with Keller (112½) but as hard as he tried he was never quite able to break down his opponent’s defence, which held up well. Whenever Keller got too close for comfort Stanley (112½) would tie him up before moving in and out with point-scoring left jabs. Having recently returned from a successful American trip many expected Keller to beat Stanley, but although he hurt the latter with solid body blows at times he was unable to subdue his rival, who nearly always appeared to be one step ahead of him. Despite a lack of billing the Sporting Life later reported it to have involved the world title, but from thereon Stanley was fighting at 118lbs.
