1908-11-07 (142lbs) Jimmy Gardner w pts 15 Jimmy Clabby, West Side AC, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Referee: Otto Schoenfeldt. Billed for the vacant 142lbs title it was a brilliant match as far as the New Orleans Daily Picayune were concerned, with Gardner (142), defending his title claim, leading from the start and showing more aggression than Clabby (138), who clinched, wrestled and clung on to his man whenever on the inside. On the outside, however, Clabby was never far behind Gardner in clever work but was unable to pin his man down and took a fair few punches in trying to do so. Although the crowd were in favour of a draw it was Gardner who was given the verdict, but it had been such a good match that the pair immediately signed for a quick return at the same venue.
