1908-12-21 (116/118lbs) Jimmy Walsh drew 15 Monte Attell, Coliseum Rink, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Alvie King. It was reported that when Walsh was unable to make 116lbs, as per the articles, the fight was re-scheduled to be contested at 118lbs. However, when Walsh even failed to negotiate the new poundage the fight went on at catchweights. The contest itself saw Attell holding a safe lead up to the 12th round, but thereafter being forced to hold on as Walsh went all out for the knockout win.

While Attell, inside 116lbs, claimed the title at that weight following the decision, Walsh, who also continued to claim the 116lbs title, next fought Jimmy Reagan at the Pacific AC, San Francisco on 29 January 1909, at catchweights. After Reagan, who was said to be inside 115lbs, claimed the title when winning on points over 12 rounds he was immediately matched against Attell just 24 days later.
