1908-12-26 (98lbs) James Easton w pts 20 Mango Pitt, Scottish National AC, Glasgow, Scotland. Although billed for the English 98lbs title, the fact that it was contested over two-minute rounds meant that it carried little or no credence whatsoever. While Pitt (97) was strong at the weight and boxed in a determined fashion, Easton (96½) was his master, several times having him at his mercy without finding the finishing blow. Boxing cleverly, Easton had Pitt travelling all over the ring to avoid stabbing left hands, and maintaining the pressure throughout the Scot ended up an easy winner on points.
Regardless of a lack of general acceptance, Easton would continue to defend his title claim within the confines of the newly formed flyweight class.
