1909-02-08 (108lbs) Sid Smith w pts 15 Albert Cocksedge, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Reported as being for the English 108lbs title, the contest was very even early on as Cocksedge (107) jabbed with precision while Smith (105) darted in and out to pick up points. From the tenth onwards, however, Smith, the taller of the pair, had decidedly the better of it as Cocksedge tired, and keeping going he ran out a worthy winner. There were no knockdowns in what was a light-hitting affair.
Surprisingly, Cocksedge was still advertising himself as the 108lb champion of England in the 13 February issue of the Mirror of Life.
On 15 May, Smith challenged all England between 104lbs and 108lbs, but from there on he would be fighting in the new flyweight division.
