1909-05-24 (118lbs) Digger Stanley drew 15 Jimmy Walsh, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Eugene Corri. Made at 118lbs, this was the third meeting between the pair and the fight ultimately settled nothing. In a battle of mainly straight punching, first one man leading then the other, it was only in the 13th that there was any real excitement. Having staggered Walsh with a terrific right to the jaw the Sporting Life reported that Stanley had the fight in his own hands for the first time in the evening, but unfortunately for him he wasted a golden opportunity and the contest carried through to the bitter end.
Unable or unwilling to make 116lbs anymore despite claiming the title at that weight, Walsh continued to claim the championship at 118lbs. Following that, other contests where his weight was undisclosed but his rivals were thought to be inside 118lbs came in America against Patsy Brannigan (nd-w pts 6 on 28 January 1910 at the Old City Hall, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and Al Delmont (drew 8 on 15 March 1910 at the Armory AA, Boston, Massachusetts).
