1909-05-26 (147/148lbs) [[Willie Lewis]] w co 3 (20) [[Andrew Jeptha]], Villiers Street Arena, London, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Reported by the ''Mirror of Life'' as being for the world 148lbs title and elsewhere as involving the 147lbs crown, this contest caused much amusement in the USA as many felt that Lewis had no right to call himself the American champion at the weight. Although appearing have a height and reach advantage, Jeptha failed to use it convincingly when allowing Lewis to get to close quarters early on. Having taken some heavy shots in both the first and second rounds, Jeptha was unable to keep the American at bay in the third, and on rising after being put down by a right to the side of the head he was dropped five more times, the last occasion seeing him counted out.
