1909-05-29 (133lbs) Battling Nelson w rsc 23 (45) Dick Hyland, Mission Street Arena, Colma, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Ed Smith. Billed for the world 133lbs championship, with both men making the body their target fighting honours were even until around the 14th, but thereafter Nelson pulled away as Hyland began to run out of steam. Down from rights and lefts to head and body, Hyland was rescued by the bell to end the 21st round and it was clear to all in attendance that it would just be a matter of time. Saved by the bell to end the 22nd, having been down again in that session, Hyland was dropped twice in the 23rd and the contest was halted immediately by the referee on the second occasion he hit the deck to allow him immediate treatment.
