1910-06-27 (147lbs) Harry Lewis w rtd 7 (20) Young Joseph, Wonderland, Mile End, London, England. Referee: Eugene Corri. Billed for the vacant 147lbs world title between the American and British champions, Lewis was soon putting his punches together, dropping Joseph with a left hook to the jaw and having him hanging on desperately at the bell. It was more than clear at this stage of the contest that Lewis hit too hard for Joseph, who was dropped again in the third and sixth rounds before taking four more counts in the seventh prior to retiring on his stool at the end of the round. Following a four-round kayo win over the 140¼lbs Johnny Summers at Olympia, Kensington, London on 25 January 1911, which was due to go on at 144lbs, Lewis (148¼) moved up among the middles.
