1910-09-05 (142/145) Jimmy Clabby w rtd 13 (20) Guy Buckles, Kirby Arena, Sheridan, Wyoming, USA. Referee: George English. Billed as a championship go according to the Sheridan Post, and thought to be articled for either 142 (3pm) or 145lbs (ringside), by his victory Clabby further cemented his right to be recognised as the best man in America. Having reported that this would be the first time a championship belt had been offered at the weight, the paper went on to say that after being outclassed and taking terrific punishment without dropping, Buckles was pulled out of the fight when his corner threw the towel in early in the 13th. Clabby then took his title claim to Australia where he participated in several over-the-weight fights, but by April 1911 the weight class was beyond him and he was seen as a fully-fledged middleweight.
