1910-12-20 (158lbs) Hugo Kelly w pts 12 Frank Klaus, Armory AA, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The Boston Daily Advertiser reported that by defeating Klaus at 158lbs, Kelly fully justified his claim, especially when fighting the last seven rounds with a damaged hand. It was no surprise that Klaus forced the fight, but what was surprising was the way Kelly handled him, shooting in lefts to the face and holding his ground while making his man miss again and again. He also landed left hooks and right crosses regularly on Klaus when in range. With Klaus coming on strong in the fifth it looked as though Kelly would not survive, but he weathered the storm and had an excellent last round when making sure of the verdict.
