1911-05-27 (133lbs) Ad Wolgast w rtd 17 (20) Oakland Frankie Burns, Eighth Street Arena, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Jack Welch. Billed for the world 133lbs title, never at any stage of the fight did Burns look like winning, his peculiar crab-like defence saving him from being floored and almost certainly knocked out. With his nose badly damaged, his eyes virtually closed and his ear ripped Burns looked a sorry state at the end of the 16th round. When the bell rang to start the 17th, recognising that the task was hopeless, Burns' corner tossed in the towel.
