1911-05-28 (122lbs) Joe Coster w pts 20 Frankie Conley, The Auditorium, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Referee: Wallace Woods. Billed for the American title at 122lbs, all three judges voted for Coster who beat Conley at his own game, on the inside. Once the contest was a few rounds old there were never any doubts about who was going to win as Coster ran the show and was only inconvenienced in the seventh when Conley, who finished with his right eye swollen the size of a golf ball, rallied somewhat. Following the fight, Coster inherited Conley’s championship claim.
