1911-07-20 (135lbs) Matt Wells nd-w pts 10 Dick Hyland, North End AC, Albany, New York, USA. With the Englishman defending his title claim, the Albany Times Union reported that this was the nearest thing to a lightweight championship battle ever held in Albany. The paper also stated that both men were inside the required 135lbs. Making an excellent start Wells had the lead in all but two rounds, the seventh and eighth, when Hyland landed some hard body blows, but ultimately showed too much class for his game opponent.
