1911-09-14 (118lbs) Digger Stanley w pts 20 Ike Bradley, The Stadium, Liverpool, England. With the British 118lbs crown and his world title claim at stake, and having beaten the Liverpudlian previously, Stanley (115½) was extremely confident coming into the fight, but with Bradley (116½) hammering him downstairs for long periods the champion must have wished he was elsewhere at times. In the fourth and fifth rounds Bradley fought like a man possessed, belting in blows to the body, and even at the halfway stage with Stanley in front his rival continued to pressure him. From the tenth onwards it was clear that both men were tiring and that Stanley was drawing further and further ahead with his better boxing, but never disheartened Bradley still kept coming in for more punishment right up until the final bell. Although Stanley’s brilliant left jab won him the fight, he could never relax against the tough Bradley who received a great ovation at the end.
