1911-09-25 Sid Smith w pts 20 Stoker Bill Hoskyne, The Ring, Southwark, London, England. Billed for the British 112lbs title, it was disqualified from being fully recognised as such by the boxing public at large due to two-minute rounds being contested. Without exerting himself, Smith boxed brilliantly to win every round, while Hoskyne never got close enough to do any damage.
A few weeks later, Jimmy Berry defeated Joe Percival when the latter was disqualified in the 12th of a scheduled 20-round contest at the St James’ Hall, Newcastle on 16 October. Thought to involve Percival’s British 106lbs title claim, there was no billing or weights given in the Mirror of Life report.
That was it as far as the 106lbs weight class was concerned until Tal Jones outpointed Harry Aarons over 15 rounds at the NSC, Covent Garden, London, on 21 June 1921. Although not billed as a championship fight, later gossip stated that Jones won the British title in this fight.
