1911-11-28 (145lbs) Willie Lewis nd-l pts 10 Mike Gibbons, Fairmont AC, Bronx, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Billy Joh. With both men inside 145lbs at the 3pm weigh-in, the New York Times reported that despite looking like a novice at times, Lewis held on to his 147lbs title claim thanks to the no-decision status of the contest. After being knocked down in the second round it looked all over for Lewis, but he somehow got up, only to be battered from pillar to post as Gibbons looked to take him out. In the sixth, Gibbons again went looking for Lewis, showering him with lefts and rights, but the latter somehow remained upright. From thereon, Gibbons stood off and hit Lewis whenever he pleased and although trying for the knockout in the tenth he could not manage it.
