1912-02-08 (158lbs) Jack Dillon nd-w pts 10 Paddy Lavin, Convention Hall, Buffalo, New York, USA. With both men inside 156lbs, Dillon held on to his 158lbs title claim with some ease, as Lavin was unable to mount much of an offensive, being too busy trying to ward off the blows coming his way. Wading into Lavin from the opening bell, ripping in terrific lefts and rights to the body, Dillon dropped the home fighter in the seventh with a right under the heart and twice drove him through the ropes, but was unable to find a decisive blow. The crowd were right behind Lavin, willing him to get through the contest, and when he did they cheered him to the rafters.
Two weeks later, on 22 February at the Chamber of Commerce, Columbus, Ohio, an over-the-weight Dillon was given the ten-round press decision over Grant Clark, thought to be inside 158lbs.
