1912-02-29 (160lbs) Georges Carpentier w co 2 (20) Jim Sullivan, Monte Carlo, Monaco. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Held in a makeshift arena erected in a public square fronted by the Mediteranean and promoted by Robert Coquelle, it was billed for the European 160lbs title with Carpentier weighing 155lbs to Sullivan’s 157. Although specifically involving the European championship, this contest also has to be seen as belonging to Carpentier’s world title claim at the weight. Outclassed from the start, Sullivan had difficulty in reaching Carpentier, let alone hurting him and early in the second round a tremendous right hook to the point of the jaw sent him down to be counted out.
