1912-03-20 (158lbs) Hugo Kelly nd-l pts 10 Eddie McGoorty, Coliseum Skating Palace, Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA. Referee: Eddie Santry. With Kelly’s 158lbs title claim at stake, although McGoorty (157) was easily the better man he could not finish his rival despite scoring a first-round knockdown. Kelly (156½), who stayed down for ‘nine’, was never really threatened again by McGoorty, who used the left hand consistently to score points. It was clear, however, that Kelly was obviously weakened by the weight-making. In fact, Kelly did not land six clean, hard punches throughout the fight, looking but a shadow of the man who outpointed Frank Klaus a year or so earlier.
