1912-04-22 (118lbs) Digger Stanley w pts 20 Charles Ledoux, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Recognised in Britain as being for the British, European and world 118lb titles, Stanley (115½) was slow to start and before he knew it Ledoux (116½) had taken the opening five rounds with pressing tactics and good bodywork. However, from the sixth onwards the champion settled into his boxing routine, rapping out straight lefts and crossing with solid rights that shook Ledoux up, and in the tenth the latter’s right eye was almost swollen shut. Unfortunately for Stanley after making a great effort to finish Ledoux off in the 13th and 14th he damaged his right hand in the process and had to fight single handedly from the thereon. Boxing cleverly, Stanley disguised the injury for a while but in the 17th the game was up and he had to call on all his skills to keep Ledoux at bay. The Frenchman was now pounding into Stanley for all his worth in the remaining three sessions, but for all his aggression he could not put the latter out and tired badly in the 20th, falling far short of the points required.
