1912-05-23 (142/145lbs) Harry Brewer nd-w pts 8 Ray Bronson, The Coliseum, St Louis, Missouri, USA. Reported in the Chicago Tribune as a billed title fight, the St Louis Post-Dispatch confirmed that Bronson was inside the stipulated 142lbs, while Brewer made 145lbs, the weight he claimed the title at following his fine performance, albeit over a shortened distance. In a contest that was meant to be a warm-up for a meeting with Packey McFarland, Bronson was shocked when knocked down in the first before being put through the ropes on two more occasions. Although Bronson came on strong near the end it was only his ring generalship that saved him from an early defeat.

On 24 September, at the same venue, Brewer met Art Magirl (nd-w pts 8), a late replacement for Bronson, thus risking his 145lbs title claim after both men made the weight at the 2pm weigh-in.
