1912-05-28 (158lbs) Jack Dillon nd-w co 3 (10) Hugo Kelly, Empire Theatre, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Referee: Tom Dillon. Often reported incorrectly as being a fight that saw Dillon claim the light heavyweight title on the result, with both men inside 158lbs it was Kelly’s middleweight claim that was at stake in this one. Right from the opening bell, Dillon looked to work on Kelly’s midsection and once he got inside the latter’s defences there was no shifting him. Coming out for the third, Dillon was quickly in action, a right-left to the jaw putting Kelly over for ‘nine’, and soon after the latter was bowled over by a left hook for the full count.
