1912-07-04 (158lbs) Jack Dillon nd-w rsc 8 (10) Joe Thomas, Wabash AC, Terre Haute, Indiana, USA. Trying to recapture former glories, when Thomas came up against a hard-hitting title claimant in Dillon he was forced to soak up heavy punishment before it was all over for him in round eight. Having been sent through the ropes in the seventh the writing was on the wall for Thomas, and after getting to his feet following a count of ‘nine’ and looking a likely kayo victim he was rescued by a humane referee. The contest had been made at 158lbs, 12 noon weigh-in.
Two fights where Dillon was heavier than the 158lbs mark, but where his opponents were inside, came against Joe Gorman (w co 6 at the Southern AC, Memphis, Tennessee on 22 July) and George Chip (nd-w pts 10 at the Empire Theatre, Indianapolis on 25 July). Dillon's fight against Gorman was scheduled for eight rounds.
