1912-09-09 (142lbs) Ray Bronson nd-l pts 12 Hilliard Lang, The Auditorium, Winnipeg, Canada. The Winnipeg Telegram reported that with both men inside 142lbs this was a battle between a world title claimant in Bronson and the best man in Canada to decide the championship. There were no knockdowns, only honest endeavour as both men tried to go clear and at the close Lang received the press decision on account of his greater work rate and rushing tactics that allowed him to get inside Bronson’s right swings. Afterwards Bronson stated that he had injured his left arm prior to the contest but carried on as to not let anyone down.
Although Bronson’s contest against Clarence English (nd-w pts 8 on 29 October at the Athletic Club, St Louis, Missouri) was only over eight rounds, the St Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Bronson’s title claim was at risk due to the fact that both men made 142lbs.
