1912-09-23 (158lbs) Eddie McGoorty nd-w co 1 (10) Jack Harrison, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Made at 160lbs, but not a billed title bout, although McGoorty (158) had long been recognised as a legitimate contender his claim to the title stemmed from this victory over Harrison (158), the British champion and Lonsdale Belt holder. Right from the opening bell McGoorty went after Harrison, throwing rights and lefts to the head, and before too long the latter was down for ‘nine’ following a right uppercut to the jaw. Getting up groggy, Harrison was chased around the ring by McGoorty before being dropped for ‘nine’ again, this time by a left hook and when another similar punch exploded on his jaw he was counted out with just five seconds of the first round remaining.
