Despite Ferns possessing dynamite in his right hand, Howell was happy to take the fight to him from the opening bell and sent his rival down for ‘nine’ in the first session. Subsequently they traded blows for most of the way, with Howell just keeping his nose in front due to his being more active, but Ferns was always dangerous.
