1913-01-22 (145lbs) Tommy Howell w pts 10 Ray Bronson, The Labor Temple Auditorium, Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Referee: Dave Porteous. Made at 145lbs, on the basis of his win over one of the top men in the division, Howell laid claim to the title at the weight. Bronson, who was dropped three times for ‘nine’ in round three and again in the ninth, had Howell down in the fourth as he regained his strength and many thought he deserved something out of the contest. Towards the end, Bronson fairly cut the limited Howell up as he went in with left and right jabs and uppercuts, but it was not enough to force a stoppage or make sure of the verdict.
