1913-02-19 (158lbs) Jack Dillon nd-w co 2 (10) Jack Denning, Virginia Avenue Auditorium, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Another successful defence of Dillon’s title claim, this time at 158lbs, saw the latter charge into Denning in the second round with a view to finishing early. Having dropped Denning twice with right swings during the session and worn him down with body shots, Dillon found a short left that stretched his rival out for the count with no further ado.

When meeting Al Rogers (nd-w pts 6 at the Mishler Theatre, Altoona, Pennsylvania on 10 March) for the second time in two months it was unclear whether this fight was a risk for Dillon against a man who could make 158lbs with ease, or whether it was contracted above the weight.
