1913-04-16 (145lbs) Wildcat Ferns drew 10 Tommy Howell, Labor Temple Auditorium, Kansas City, Missouri, USA. The Kansas City Star gave this one at catchweights but reported both fighters to be inside 145lbs. A hard-hitting affair saw Howell, who was dropped by a left swing to the jaw in the second round, come back strongly to send Ferns sprawling in the ninth from a similar blow. Both men were bleeding freely at the final bell. Howell’s claim at 145lbs drops off from thereon as he continuously fights in six rounders and puts on weight.
