1913-04-30 Luther McCarty nd-w pts 10 Gunboat Smith, St Nicholas Arena, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Fought at a fast pace for heavyweights, there was very little good work as both men threw punches that more often than not missed the target. McCarty did his best work with the left jab, but was continually countered by the left hook. Having been butted to the floor in the ninth, the 'white' champion came right back in the tenth and last session to send Moran staggering around the ring. Although Moran was up against it he somehow remained on his feet to the bell, McCarty missing with crude swings as he tried to find a finishing blow.
