1913-06-13 (158lbs) Jimmy Clabby w pts 12 Eddie McGoorty, Holland Rink, Butte, Montana, USA. Referee: Tosh McIntosh. According to the TS Andrews’ Annuals Clabby (151) had been claiming the middleweight title since 1912, but it was only after defeating McGoorty (158) in this billed 158lbs title bout that his claim was taken seriously. Despite being floored twice in the opening round, his left eye closed shut and groggy in the second, Clabby was bravely back in the fight by the fourth, boxing and moving well. With the punches flying in, when McGoorty’s left eye was badly cut in the ninth there seemed no way back for him. At that stage of the fight, Clabby, excelling on the inside, was in full swing. According to the referee, Clabby won six rounds to McGoorty’s one, with five evenly scored.
