1913-07-22 (142lbs) Mike Glover w rsc 4 (10) Marcel Thomas, Atlas AA, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Jack Sheehan. Although Thomas held the French version of the world 147lbs title, the Boston Post failed to report weights and billing. However, they did state: “This was as near a title fight you will get” and following the result and taking into account his recent victory over England’s Gus Platts (nd-w pts 10 on 9 July at St Nicholas Arena, Manhattan, NYC, New York), Glover laid claim to the 142lbs championship. It was a strange fight, with Thomas well outpointing Glover in the first two rounds but then being in distress as the latter responded with stiff body shots. After two minutes of the fourth, Thomas suddenly dropped his hands and walked to his corner, whereupon the referee called it off and awarded the contest to Glover.
