1913-09-29 (142lbs) Mike Glover nd-w pts 10 Young Denny, Orleans AC, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Referee: Dick Burke. With both men inside 142lbs at 3pm, as per the New Orleans Daily Picayune, Glover’s title claim was automatically at stake and he had no intention of losing it. Starting fast, Glover’s left hand opened Denny up again and again and on at least three or four occasions the latter almost went through the ropes after rushing in to the attack. In the middle stages the fight lost its impetus due to both men continually wrestled at close quarters and very few quality punches landed. After being told that he would be thrown out if he continued to transgress the rules, Denny finally woke up in the ninth, going after Glover with both hands and opening up the title claimant’s left eye. The last round saw both men going in hard, with Glover relying on his skill to nullify Denny’s aggression, and at the final bell there was no doubt in the minds of the attending pressmen as to the winner.
