1913-10-03 (116lbs) Kid Williams nd-w co 2 (15) Mickey Dunn, Albaugh’s Theatre, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Referee: Harry Jeffries. According to the Baltimore Evening Sun, with both men inside the weight this was a title fight at 116lbs. Dunn was expected by many to put up a decent fight, but after Williams laid into him with both hands towards the end of the opening round the writing was already on the wall. The second session had barely got underway when Williams backed Dunn into a corner, banging away with both hands to the body, and when the latter walked on to a left swing to the jaw it was all over.

Three short-distance fights in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania saw Williams risking his title claim in a match made at 116lbs against Willie Mack (nd-w pts 6 at the Olympia AC on 6 October) and almost certainly putting it up for grabs against Patsy Brannigan (nd-w pts 6 at the Old City Hall on 25 October) and Battling Reddy (nd-w pts 6 at the Olympia AC on 24 November).
