1913-10-03 Sam Langford nd-l pts 10 Joe Jeannette, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Billy Joh. Another ‘black’ title fight for Langford (200) saw him put under a lot of pressure early on by the well-conditioned Jeanette (196), especially with left jabs, before heavy rights and lefts to the head rocked him in the fourth. There were no knockdowns, but Langford was forced to hang on from the sixth onwards and finished extremely weak from his exertions, while Jeanette looked as though he could have carried on all night.
