1913-10-13 (158lbs) Joe Borrell nd-w rsc 5 (6) Harry Lewis, Olympia AC, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Referee: Frank O’Brien. With both men inside 158lbs, Lewis was badly beaten by Borrell, taking serious punishment in the second, third and fourth rounds. Belted to the floor twice in the fourth, and being hit at will, the referee stopped the fight early in the fifth to save an exhausted Lewis from being knocked out. Back in the dressing room, Lewis collapsed and was taken to hospital suffering from concussion of the brain and never boxed again. In the aftermath, Borrell claimed the title after his no-decision contest win despite the bout being scheduled for only six rounds, but on receiving little or no support at all in America he eventually took his claim abroad.
