1913-11-10 Willie Ritchie nd-¬w pts 10 Leach Cross, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - USA. Referee: Billy Joh. Made at 135lbs, with both men inside at the 9pm weigh-in, at ringside Ritchie scaled 137lbs to Cross’ 136¼. Known as ‘The Fighting Dentist’, Cross was a tough opponent for Ritchie and from the first bell the men fought like bulldogs. Twice in the third round, Ritchie had Cross on the floor for counts of ‘nine’ from vicious rights to the jaw, but he was unable to keep him down and although handing the latter a terrible beating for the remainder of the contest he had to settle for the press decision.
