1913-12-23 (160lbs) George Chip nd-w rsc 5 (6) Frank Klaus, Duquesne Gardens, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Referee: Tom Dillon. In a return six-round no-decision fight, Chip (160) bettered his previous win over Klaus (162½) when stopping him in the fifth round. Up to the fifth round it had been a hard fight, but Chip had remained cool and shown his strength at close quarters. The fifth session saw Chip raining in blows to head and body to drop Klaus, and after the latter got up at the count of ‘seven’ he was immediately under pressure yet again. With Chip smashing in trip-hammer blows to the jaw when Klaus’ hands dropped to his side, rendering him defenceless, the referee called a halt.
Chip received widespread recognition at 160lbs in America even though the class limit was generally seen as being 158lbs.
