1914-01-15 Freddie Welsh w pts 10 Mickey Sheridan, Academy of Music, Kansas City, Missouri, USA - GB. Referee: Walter Bates. Made at 135lbs, it was a comfortable win for Welsh, who gave a wonderful exhibition of defensive boxing that left Sheridan totally bewildered by his speed and movement. Although Welsh fought on the back foot and did not attempt to carry the contest to Sheridan, he rocked the latter badly in the fifth round with repeated lefts and rights to the head before going back to cruising through the gears.

Welsh next took on Earl Fisher at catchweights at the Music Hall, Cincinnati, Ohio on 26 January. Gaining the ten-round press decision, Welsh allowed Fisher to make 135lbs while he was reported as being several pounds heavier.
