1914-01-19 (142lbs) Mike Glover nd-l pts 10 Jack Britton, National AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. A defence of Glover’s 142lbs title claim ended with Britton (134½) being awarded the press verdict following an exceptional contest of skill and science that saw him get the better of every round bar the fifth and seventh. While Glover (137¼) was not far behind he was unable to make a breakthrough against a man at the top of his game.
A fight against Kid Graves at the Broadway SC, Brooklyn, NYC on 7 July that was initially thought to have involved Glover’s 142lbs title claim saw the latter win the ten-round press decision. With Graves scaling 143¾lbs to Glover’s 147¾lbs it was nothing more than a fight between two good men.
On 29 October, Glover outpointed KO Sweeney over ten rounds at the North-End AC Auditorium, Waterbury, Connecticut, in a fight that was described by the Naugatuck Daily News as being practically a battle for the welterweight title. However, with no weights available and Sweeney described in one fight report as being a middleweight, we should discard any claims of it having title involvement until better information surfaces.
