1914-03-12 Willie Ritchie nd-w pts 10 Ad Wolgast, Brewery City Auditorium, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - USA. Referee: Harry Stout. Articled to make 135lbs at 3pm on the day of the fight, it was reported to be as rough a fight as you would wish to see, with Wolgast (134½) more than happy to use his head and swing low. Prior to the sixth round it was relatively even, but after that Ritchie (135) began to pull away despite having problems dealing with Wolgast’s turtle-shaped defence. Dropped to his knees by a right-hand blow to the stomach in the seventh, Wolgast looked for the foul and when it wasn’t forthcoming charged into Ritchie, going low on several occasions. Wolgast repeated this tactic several times more, but Ritchie was now on top and was well worth the press decision at the end of the contest.
