1914-03-23 Sam Langford nd-w rsc 1 Bill Watkins, National SC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Patsy Haley. In a defence of his ‘black’ title, Langford made short work of Watkins, who appeared out of his depth. It did not take long for Langford to find his rival and after landing heavily to the ear in the opening session Watkins fell to the floor claiming he could not see. With Watkins sitting on the floor complaining, the referee stopped the fight.
