1914-04-28 Freddie Welsh w pts 20 Leach Cross, Vernon Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA - GB. Made at 135lbs ringside, this win for Welsh, who was automatically defending his title claim at the weight, also cemented his right to challenge Willie Ritchie in an effort to unify the world championship. Unfortunately for the crowd it was a tame affair, with much of the time being spent in clinches, and it was only in the last round that Welsh finally showed his true ability when opening up to finish the fresher.
