1914-05-21 (158lbs) Al McCoy nd-l pts 10 Billy Murray, Stadium AC, St Nicholas Rink, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. With the title claim at stake for both men, Murray (157) had little difficulty with McCoy (154½), battering him around the head with two hands at times in the first eight rounds until the latter came back in the ninth. Before that, Murray had proved superior to the New Yorker, especially on the inside, and with the left hook. The last two sessions witnessed a slugfest, with both men carrying swollen right eyes, and McCoy coming close to stopping Murray immediately before the final bell rang.
