1914-05-25 Freddie Welsh nd-w pts 10 Joe Mandot, Pelican Park, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - GB. Referee: Dick Burke. With the weight set at 135lbs, Welsh held on to his title claim when often outclassing the tough Mandot, especially in the third and fourth rounds before he dropped the latter in the fifth. Although Mandot came back strongly he wasn’t in Welsh’s class and in the last two sessions he took tremendous punishment to head and body as the British boy looked to finish him off.
