1914-06-11 (158lbs) Al McCoy nd-l pts 10 Billy Murray, Stadium AC, St Nicholas Rink, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. With both men putting their title claims on the line for the second time in three weeks, McCoy (157) generally went missing, holding repeatedly, running away and refusing to exchange blows in order to avoid being stopped. With Murray (158) consistently forcing matters, despite his right eye being closed early on, if an official decision had been given he would have won hands down. Although McCoy made a better showing in the last two sessions, busting up Murray’s nose, he was unable to find the punch to earn a stoppage win and was well on the road to be seen as a ‘cheese’ champion.
